How Do You Tell When You Need New Windows?

The number one sign that you need new windows is if the window itself or the frame is damaged. Look out for cracks, chips, warped wood, or water damage. This damage may also make your windows difficult or impossible to open. However, there are other signs you need to watch for as well, including:
  • Too much outside noise: If you and your family can hear everything that happens outside, your windows aren't doing their job. New windows can act as a soundproof barrier against outdoor noises.
  • Excessive drafts: Do you feel cold drafts in the winter even when your windows are cold? As with the noise leakage, this is a sign that your windows aren't performing. We can help you install windows that keep out any drafts throughout the year.
  • Condensation: If you see water or fog between your window panes, that means the seal has failed.
If you see any of these signs, give us a call. We can help with our window replacement service.

  • WINDOW CARE

In most cases, the maintenance necessary for a new window is minimal. It’s always a good idea to wash your windows and clean the sills where dirt and grime can affect the hardware.

    Wood Windows

To protect a newer aluminum clad wood window, it’s a good idea to put a coat of varnish on the interior wood surfaces, keeping them sealed and protected. How often will depend on factors such as glass coating and exposure to sunlight, but it will likely be between 5 and 10 years. If you have older windows, you may want to seal the wood more often, and of course, exterior maintenance and repainting is necessary every few years.

When doing the general cleaning of your wood windows, be sure to include cleaning and lubricating the hardware.

    Vinyl Windows

Because vinyl windows are designed to be maintenance-free, the only upkeep you’ll likely need to perform is keeping them clean. This includes cleaning and lubricating the hardware.

    Glass Care

The glass in your windows will require periodic cleaning. We recommend treating your glass the way you would treat crystal dishware. Use a mild cleanser of dish soap and water, a rinse with clear water, and drying with a soft cloth.
